MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING—July 12, 2011

There was a meeting of the club officers at 6:40 pm.

The Treasurer, Jim Cook gave a report as follows: The May balance for the Bank of America checking account was $ 2,698.70. There was an income of $80.02 and an expense of $58.00. That brought the total for the June Balance to $ 2,720.72. The Quimper CD at the end of March was $ 6,830.37. With the interest of $ 42.66 during this period, the new balance at the end of June is $6,873.03.

During the business meeting it was decided that the club will have a "Fun Fly" on Saturday, August 13th. The club is encouraged to bring their families. There will be some fun type competition and also things to eat…….come hungry!

The evening was filled with much show and tell and with much conversation and interest. Ye olde editor: Many SKPs told me how much they appreciated our event…and one couple even came out to the field!

The members present were: Jim Crumley, Jim Cook, Pete Granger, Bill Anliker, John Fitch, Alden Johnson, Doug Anable, Pete Bruce, Roy Greene, Jeff Beres, Tom Cochran, David Henley, Tom Beres, Pete Hanke and Lawrence Pendleton.

Among the supportive guests were: Terry and Lynn Lore, Don and Nicky Boston, Warren and Bevanna Goodrich, Earl Jones, Mike Ragon, Sam Kidd and Hank Bernard.

AROUND THE CLUB

I hope everyone saw the picture of Lawrence Pendleton and Roy Greene covering their biplanes during Airport Days rain. It was on the FRONT PAGE of the July 17 Peninsula Daily News!

I exchanged a few e-mails with Lew Creedon:

Good to hear from you--I have missed you at the field.  Did you sell your house and move South, or just visiting?

Last Friday and Saturday were superb flying days and as usual the destruction derby was in full swing.  Roy Greene destroyed a big helicopter on his first heli flight, and Jeff Beres planted his 60 size Uproar due to a radio/servo malfunction.

...and yes we have had a lot of rain and wind.

Rented house, bought another in Oceanside.  80% of new H.P.42 is done & will fly soon. Trust everybody has recovered from the shock of my departure.   Lew

From left to right Terry Lore, an SKP visitor, Roy Greene, and Jim Crumley on a near perfect flying day doing what we seem to do best.

J Thanks to John Fitch for this amazing story:

Ye olde editor: The only way I was able to retain the pictures was to send it as an attachment.

NEW MEMBERS

I hope to obtain a brief bio and a picture of our new members to enhance their introduction to the membership. This is voluntary on the part of the newbie, but it should be beneficial for all.

HINTS, KINKS, AND STUFF

J J J Bob Kampmann continues to be my most prolific source—many thanks, Bob.

J This is truly amazing. Be sure to watch the video at the end of the slides. (Use full screen.)

J After 60 years, a Bell P-39 Airacobra was found intact in Russia with a Harrison Radiator in it. Did you know that the girls like Rosie the Riveter, who built these planes, wrote their names and addresses on the plane's bulkheads?

J And some of us have trouble driving a car. Try driving a shuttle. Good luck!

Move your mouse around and you can change the view. Here is something worth the couple of minutes to view: a 360 panorama of the Discovery crew cabin flight deck.

This is pretty cool----and maybe the last time we get to see it before it is stuffed and mounted at the Smithsonian!

Lighting is from the internal instrument panel lights.

J From old friend Bob Skoien:

I was especially amused by the leaky fuel tanks and the fact that they need a pair of 454 big blocks to start the engines:

J From retired airplane driver Jack Brown:

The birds guide them to thermals for paragliding.

JUST PLANE FUN

J Thanks to Bob Kampmann for this gem:

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Pete Bruce has signed up for this month—if he can tear himself away from his nifty new biplane. Thanks from all of us, Pete.

President Seth will be organizing a work party to clean out the shed—a job that is really overdue. Be sure to turn to when the call goes out—many hands will make the work go quickly.

FOR SALE OR TRADE

If you want to list an item, just send me the details including your name, phone number, and asking price or trade-for item. Low pixel count digital (JPEG) pictures are also acceptable.

MONTHLY MEETING—August 9 at 7:00 in the SKP Clubhouse

The officers will meet at 6:30 because they don’t know any better. The rest of us will show up a bit later for (Are you ready for some fun????) a discussion of Fun Fly events. Ye olde editor: Have you noticed the target in the middle of the runway? Lawrence has been practicing dead stick spot landings on it. DO NOT let him talk the club into having this event. He has not gotten close yet, but sooner or later…
