MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING—Lawrence Pendleton

January 11th, 2011

Meeting opened by the new President, Seth Stephens at 7:03 pm.

Members attending were: Pendleton, Creedon, Jeff Beres, Tom Beres, Greene, Berson, Fitch, Anliker, Berger, Anable, Hensley, Calkins, Bruce, Cindy Cook, Jim Cook, Maupin and Stephens.

Guests Present: None

The minutes posted on the Web site were approved as submitted.

Treasurers Report: In the Bank of America checking account there were deposits totaling $ 1,500.04 and withdrawals of $ 1,175.83. The balance of that account is currently $ 2,191.23. The Quimper CD has grown by $ 42.59 and its balance stands at $ 6,788.44.

Safety Report: Roy says, "Be Safe."

Old Business: Seth Stephens expressed the gratitude of the membership by offering a big "Thank You" to Cindy Cook for her commitment and effort for her help with the Christmas Party.

New Business: Seth Stephens shared the needful unity of all RC club members regarding possible FAA rules to be enforced on small scale-non-piloted aircraft.

There was some discussion regarding a possible club field trip to The Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Cindy Cook moved to discontinue the issuing of club membership cards. Randy Calkins seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. The object was to simplify and cut unnecessary cost.

Crash of the Month: Roy Greene was very emphatic in relating that some designs in aviation don’t "get off the ground." Or, at least, not without much difficulty on a short runway, and once airborne, they drop like a rock. He was talking about the "Sea Wind." It was as fast as a P-51. 80 mph.

Service Award: None

Meeting closed at 7:40 pm.

The Program: Following the meeting was a show and tell event with very enthusiastic club participation. Pete Bruce also added a film documenting a flight to Sequim and back in his Avid Homebuilt.

AROUND THE CLUB

J From Cindy Cook:

Jim and I went to an indoor flying club meet in Seattle Wednesday. I just took a couple of pictures and thought you might be able to use them for the newsletter. The panorama is a stitch of about 4 photos. The flying place was set up for tennis, but worked fine for those little electrics!

The other picture is of a carrying system the guys seem to like.

Nothing like a good old cardboard box with slits! It's a really nice club - just wish it was a lot closer to us.

J From Jeff Beres: At the last meeting we discussed a possible group outing to the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field.  I found out if we can get ten or more together and pay all together the price is $13 per person.  Otherwise it is $16 for adults or $14 for seniors.  Also if we do have a group and give a least two weeks notice they offer a complimentary tour of about an hour in length.  If there is still time to get it in the newsletter it might be of interest to the members. Greene has 15 passinger van so let Greene know if you need a ride.

J From Lew Creedon a 1932 Duesenberg model: This man has hand made every part to create this working scale model. It is a complete reproduction with all working parts all of which he machined himself in his home workshop.  Truly a labor of love.  One assumes it is priceless. Ye olde editor: The engine even runs!

J From Bob Kampmann: Win Perkins, a real estate appraiser who specializes in airport properties,  has posted on his Web site a video he created of Charles Lindbergh's famous  and risky takeoff in the Spirit of  St. Louis .. According to Perkins, this is unlike any other presentation of the takeoff footage. Perkins said he "painstakingly assembled news footage from five cameras that filmed Lindbergh's takeoff from Roosevelt Field, Long Island and mixed it with enhanced audio from the same newsreel sources.

This is one of the most interesting videos I've seen come over the Internet.  When you click on the address, episode #3 comes up ready to play.

I suggest you first click on "CONTACT" to the left and select #1, then watch them in order, #1 through #4 (each time going back to "contact" and selecting the next one). I was glued to the screen through all 4.
What guts it took for Lindbergh to overcome the odds against him and accomplish this amazing feat!

NEW MEMBERS

I hope to obtain a brief bio and a picture of our new members to enhance their introduction to the membership. This is voluntary on the part of the newbie, but it should be beneficial for all.

HINTS, KINKS, AND STUFF

J From old friend Max Cossalter a video of Mack Hodges flying his B-29: Homemade B-29 bomber.........Wow! This is cool. This aircraft runs on four Chainsaw motors.
You can just imagine how much time, effort, skill and money these guys have put into this thing.

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Ye olde editor: Would someone please e-mail me the list when it is ready. I would hate to neglect ANY of our peerless volunteers.

FOR SALE OR TRADE

If you want to list an item, just send me the details including your name, phone number, and asking price or trade-for item. Low pixel count digital (JPEG) pictures are also acceptable.

MONTHLY MEETING—February 8 at 7:00 in the SKP Clubhouse

I assume the officers will gather at 6:30 to take care of business. Ye olde editor: I have no information about a program, but I’ll bet there will be one. Jeff has really been creative so far, so I expect there will be another "grabber."
