MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING

Meeting was opened at 7:06 pm.

Attending: Pendleton, Berson, Berger, Dantzler, Barras, Jeff Beres, Tom Beres, Marken, Becker, Johnson, Calkins, Stephens, Smith, Greene, Henley and Carter.

Guests Present: C. Doug Anab.

Minutes posted on the web site were approved as submitted.

Treasurers Report: Bank of America checking account current balance is $ 2,678.24 and the Quimper CD is $ 6,175.02. The CD will be put into a 5 year plan which will cause the account to grow at a 2.53 percent interest rate also $ 500.00 will be added to the CD account.

Old Business: There were ideas offered around the table to be considered as contest events for the upcoming fun fly to be in June.

New Business: Bill Berson says that the club will try the "Raising of Hands" to be recognized to have the floor. The order in conversation at the meetings may be helpful.

General: Tom Beres will print instructions for the rider mower at the flying field.

Crash of the Month: Jim Crumley’s crash of his Sukhoi 31 becoming an aero plane of many fragmented pieces certainly seemed to impress some of those who voted around the membership at the club meeting Tuesday night. But, when one has a pair team up to put that EasyStar into the ground twice you’ve got to give it to ’em hands up on the vote and "Hands Down" as winners on that coveted crash of the month trophy. Cooks win!

Service Award: None.

Business meeting closed at 8:00 pm.

Program: Seth Stephens shared some of his experience in the Air Force with his involvement with munitions and maintenance. About 10 years of his 25 years was spent as an inspector on various inspector general staffs. He also included some humorous comments that were responses made by maintenance on their reports to crew members on their maintenance forms. These are a few of such comments between crew and maintenance floating around the military (Air Force).

Crew – Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.

Maintenance – Almost replaced left inside tire.

C – Something loose in cockpit

M – Something tightened in cockpit

C – Dead bugs on windshield

M – Live bugs on backorder

C - Number 3 engine missing

M - Engine found on right wing after brief search

C – A/C handles funny

M – A/C warned to straighten up, fly right and be more serious

Note: Fun Fly June 12th. Pilots check in at 9 am. Pilot’s meeting at 9:15 am. Fly 9:30 am.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

We have a club Fun-Fly and picnic scheduled for June 12.
Pilots should sign in about 9:00am and expect to start flying at 9:30am.
We will have six local Hobby shop gift certificate prize awards of
$16-$20 each for 1st and 2nd place winners in three events. I think
some club members are also planning to provide a complete picnic. No

NEW MEMBERS

I hope to obtain a brief bio and a picture of our new members to enhance their introduction to the membership. This is voluntary on the part of the newbie, but it should be beneficial for all.

FAR FLUNG (NON) FLYING

We are presently in Coeur d’Alene, ID (CDA to the locals) and our RV park has plenty of open space to fly an electric park model. The bad news is that it has been pretty breezy since we arrived. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

The local club, CAMS, has a great web site. The picture of their flying field will knock your socks off. Go to the AMA District XI web site, click on Clubs, click on Idaho, and click on Coeur d’Alene.

JUST PLANE FUN

J Randy Calkins thinks this airplane is about ready for retirement:

Ye olde editor: The picture is priceless, but I can’t seem to copy it. Double click on the attachment of this e-mail to view the picture.

HINTS, KINKS, AND STUFF

J Thanks to Larry Berger for this announcement:

Time to mark your calendars for the Electric Goose event 2010  -  August 21st

There will be 3 pieces of aviation art plus over $400 in prizes awarded to some lucky / skillful participants.

SAFETY—by Seth Stevens

One of our members recently lost a beautiful red and white Sukhoi 31 model in the wetlands north of the field. After analyzing the circumstances of the accident and examining the wreckage we think we may have hit upon the cause. If we are right, all of us using 2.4GHz radios may benefit from our findings. All such radios should have the antenna cocked at a 90 degree angle to the face of the radio when transmitting. This gives the short antennas on these radios the best transmitting position. In the above case the antenna was left straight and subsequently the tip of the antenna was being pointed at the aircraft. After climbing out form a normal takeoff, the plane answered a left turn command and immediately the pilot yelled out "I’ve lost it". All attempts at further commands failed and the model went in at full power in a steep left bank. Adding to the circumstances was the fact that the antenna was on the bottom of the aircraft away from the direction of the transmitter. Both of the above facts presented the poorest possible transmitting/receiver connection. In summation: If you use the 2.4GHz radio, make sure the transmitter’s antenna is in the proper position.

Ye olde editor: I think Seth is dead on with this one. My Futaba outfit came with the same directions.

FIELD MAINTENANCE

Dale Olsen is signed up for June. This is a heavy month for mowing, etc. Be sure to give Dale special thanks for taking on a really big job.

EDITORIAL

The FUN FLY is almost upon us. I know from experience that it is very intense for the organizers. Be sure that each of you participants help out where ever you can. In addition, ALWAYS be ready to fly when it is your turn.

MONTHLY MEETING—June 8 at 7:00 in the SKP Clubhouse

This meeting is coming very early in the month, so be alert to the date—June 8.

The officers will gather at 6:30 to plot dire fun fly events to inflict on the innocent pilots. No info on a program for this meeting.
