Meeting Minutes:          (Next Meeting: Jan. 14, 2003, Excapees RV Park)

12/10/02  Meeting of the TriArea RC Flyers

The meeting was called to order by President Wylie at 6:00PM at the SKP clubhouse.  In attendance were two Wylies, two Anlikers, two Grangers, two Benjamins, two Calkins, two Fitches, two Bolings, two Waagas, four Hankes, Stanley, Greene, Dantzler, Tolpin and McI:ntyre.

The reading of the minutes of the last meeting were dispensed with in order to keep the meeting short.  The Treasurer’s report showed assets of $2337.53, comprised of  $2077.53 in the bank and $260 in fuel inventory.  Our fuel inventory consists of 4, 12, and 3 gal. of 10%, 15% and 4S. respectively.

Proposed changes in the bylaws were discussed and it was decided that the proposed text would be E-mailed out prior to the next meeting, to be voted on at the meeting. The majority of changes have to do with meeting AMA’s new bylaws requirements.

The Club has acquired three videos which are available to be checked out by the members.  These can be obtained from the Sec./Treas.

Benjamin proposed that we consider having next year’s Christmas party catered by ladies at SKP.

Suggested prices for the dinners were: chicken-$4.50,  Turkey-$5.00,  prime rib $10.00.  A motion to have the meal catered next year carried.

Clark Stanley offered to donate an LT 40 kit, complete with engine to the Club to be used as a trainer

The meeting was adjourned to a fine dinner and party.

Submitted by Bill Anliker, Sec./Treas.

FAR FLUNG FLYING 2003

By Pete Granger

Sunday, January 5  Russ and I rode bicycles 2 blocks to the park softball field.  Somehow he managed to carry a small electric model (his fully assembled FERIAS), transmitter, and 3 battery packs.  It was a bright, sunny afternoon with hardly a breeze.  The temperature was about 75 and I was wearing shorts.  We enjoyed a very pleasant 45 minutes or so guiding the little plane all around the field.  The takeoffs were made from the well-graded infield and most of the flying was over lush, recently mowed grass (no weeds allowed in this park).  It does not get much better than this!

Monday, January 6 The wind was predicted to start blowing about noon, so we decided to go to nearby Superstition Field in the morning.  Russ left about 30 minutes ahead of me and just as I was finished loading his wife Nancy hollered at me that Russ had just called (aren’t cell phones wonderful?) and could I take his wing to him?  I couldn’t help but chuckle a little when I delivered it to him—and I’m sure none of you will mention it to him.

There were 6 or so active flyers at the field and some very nice airplanes.  The plane that I liked the best was a beautiful Balsa USA PHAETON biplane powered by a 1.8 (I think) 4 stroke.  It was very acrobatic and landed smoothly with no bouncing.  Russ had his big SPACE WALKER out and was flying as well as ever although he complained that the plane was hard to do good landings with.  He did quite a few takeoffs and landings and mostly eliminated the “runway gallop” bounces that characterized the first few.  I was not feeling very good (caught a cold from the wife) so I just flew my STIK 10 a couple of times.  I had not flown it much and the trims sure need some work.  It also acted nose heavy.

If everything goes according to plan you should have a picture of the flight line at Superstition Field.  If not, well, it’s the thought that counts—or so it is said.

Editor's note: I have tried to put the picture of the fly field in, however at this time I am not skilled enough to do that with this program.... I will learn how and update this file in the near future.
