Minutes of the 5/11/04 Meeting of the TriArea RC Flyers
The meeting was called to order by President Pete Granger at 7:00PM at the SKP Clubhouse. Attending were: Granger, Anliker, Henley, Moffett, Ryder, Oaks, Greene, McIntyre, Fitch, Austin, Gillanders, Calkins, Phillips, Joeseph, Benjamin, Davis, Wylie, Lemons, G. Smith and Tolpin. Guests were: Don Schmaltz and George Kober. Don Schmaltz was thanked for giving the club a donation of $20.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer’s report showed a bank account of $3841.05 plus $42 in fuel inventory for total assets of $3883.05. A fuel shipment is supposed to be coming to the distributor around the end of the month.
There was a brief discussion of the neighbor relations and it was noted that there has been no response to the letter that was sent to one of the neighbors to the West.
Phillips gave a recap of the table-building work party and thanked all those who participated.
President Granger reported on the recent Board meeting and announced the appointment of Dick Benjamin to fill out the term of Vice President and John Fitch to fill Benjamin’s vacated Director’s position. Grant Smith was appointed Chairman of the Nominating Committee and Bill Anliker assumed responsibility for the Field Location Committee.
Wylie’s contributions to the club were recognized by naming the flying field “Wylie Field” and he was presented with an appropriate sign to eventually go up on the storage shed.
Benjamin was the worthy recipient of the Crash-of-the Month Trophy by demonstrating that there is a limit to the amount of abuse an LT 40 will take.
The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed Mrs. Granger’s carrot cake and Wylie’s presentation on applying covering.

Work party report
By Lonnie Phillips
Twas a bright, sunshiny day
with a gentle breeze from the North on Saturday the 1st day of May. The parking
area was jammed to overflow with club members, but instead of planes a buzzin'
there were drills a drillin' and saws a cuttin'.
The call for the work party
to build tables to replace the old cable drums was a great success. The
turnout was wonderful. We managed to put together 3 large tables and 1 small
one with enough wood left over for several more small ones.
We did it all using manual
labor since my remote controlled hammer and saw still has some bugs in it.
I want to give a special
thanks to all those that participated and gave up a beautiful Saturday morning
to work at the field. I don't know all
the names but here's a few.

Jim Tolpin
Mike McIntyre
Walt Johnson

Editor’s Note: We
know we missed a few names and we apologize—the club really does appreciate
your help. Pete
Thank You!

Flight Humor
In another famous SR-71 story, Los Angeles
Center reported receiving a request for clearance to FL 600 (60,000ft). The
incredulous controller, with some disdain in his voice, asked, "How do you
plan to get up to 60,000 feet?
The pilot (obviously a sled driver), responded, "We don't plan to
go up to it; we plan to go down to it." He was cleared.

Some
time ago the membership requested a demonstration on cutting foam wings. We have that program on the schedule, but so
far we have not been able to identify a club member that does this sort of
thing. If you have the know-how and
equipment to cut a foam wing, please contact Dick Benjamin at 379-9851.
Also,
if you have buddy boxes or trainer cords that you have “outgrown”, please
donate them to the club. We have an
Airtronics buddy cord for the club trainer, but that is all that is in the
inventory. It sure would be nice to
have the other brands covered as well.
Just bring your donation to the next meeting or pass it on to an officer
at the flying field.
I
recently discovered a supplier that does only electric stuff. All E RC www.ALLERC.com
is a keeper. Their prices are very
reasonable and they have a very comprehensive stock. Some of the little foamy airplanes, which cost in the $30 range
really call to me. They offer a wide
variety of flight packs that include speed controls, receiver and crystal, 2
servos, and some even include the battery of your choice for a very reasonable
price. Most of the items are shown in
color pictures and they are very good about giving the specifications. I sure wish I had found these folks sooner!
Remember,
the next club meeting will be Tuesday June 8 at the SKP clubhouse off Anderson
Lake Road. Be there to represent
yourself in case that hard landing you made gets nominated as crash of the
month!
